Grounds Baker Library

By 1979, when the Baker family decided to add a library to the compound, Robin Boyd´s partner Roy Grounds was commissioned to undertake the work as Boyd had died in 1971.

This peaceful, reflective space which was also built from sandstone quarried on site contains two rooms divided by a central entry hall; on one side a light, high ceilinged studio space and on the other the library which is fitted with simple, elegant and highly effective shelving designed and made by Dr Baker.

There is strong evidence of Grounds earlier building, the National Gallery of Victoria (1966), in this quiet but unexpectedly assertive building which sits out of sight of both the Baker and the Dower houses in its own bush setting.
